Society of Lost Balls

Emma's tennis balls have been mysteriously disappearing in alarming numbers. I thought she might be leaving them at the altar of the fence gods hoping he would let her go over and play with Pokey and Katie next door if she left him her favorite things. Many times I have found her beloved blue bear or lizard at the hole she is digging at the sacred fence. A new peanut butter filled rubber kong materialized over in the yard next to ours. We still don't know how that happened. But the mystery of the tennis balls has been solved. Em was digging up the floor trying to get at something under a large buffet in the dining room. I got on my hands and knees and peered underneath and lo and behold a society of tennis balls gathered or more like huddled in a far corner with the dust kitties and an old chewed piece of rawhide long forgotten. Armed with a broom handle and an anxious puppy we went to war. Guess I won't have to buy any more for awhile.
