Saturday market at the Port is a common occurrence in July. The boardwalk is filled with vendors selling fruits, vegetables, flowers, baked goods and crafts from hand made soaps and jewelry to art and wood crafts. People stroll along, filling their environmentally friendly canvas sacks with their purchases. Many bring their four legged friends who also socialize with others like them. Local musicians play to entertain while people shop. The fog keeps us cool and the tourists keep us busy. Summer rhythms here bring folks out to visit many come with vacationing friends and relatives looking for something to do. The streets and restaurants fill to an uncomfortable crush reminding us locals to appreciate the empty winter months. A busy fast pace replaces a slower one. The visitors give us a feel of what we miss in the big cities - a taste of life many of us left long ago. Time seems to pass in the summer much more quickly than the winters. Soon it will be over and we will be able to regroup and rest up to do it all again next year.
