Can you believe it is almost July? Children are out of school and summer is upon us. The crowds have returned and the fishing has been excellent. Big Rock fish are coming in and the ling cod are still on the bite so much so that I am (almost) sick of eating it. They say you are what you eat so my gills should start showing soon.
We have a Coho Salmon season and a short Chinook run this year that shows promise. Lots of excitement vibrates through the folks that come in for information. People stop by on vacation with their families looking to relax and have some fun and new adventures. My morning walks are the most peaceful part of the day as all is relatively calm and quiet so early in the morning.
Our ocean has been as flat as an ocean gets. I am almost tempted to challenge fate and defy my sea sickness tendencies and try my luck out there. I feel the green color creeping up my neck as I think of it. . . nah I will let the heartier souls do the dirty work. Speaking of dirty work. . . ha ha - my garden is doing well. Yukon potatoes plants are beautiful. I can't wait to harvest my first spuds. My blueberry plants are thriving but I will have to race the birds to those succulent treats. My pear tree is laden with new fruit and my herb garden is mostly thriving except for the favorite spices of the slugs and snails namely borage, basil, dill and cilantro did not stand a chance. I hate to break out the chemicals but may have to.
So to you - whoever is reading this, I wish a peaceful happy summer.
