Beachfront RV park is full to capacity. Portside RV - not an empty space to be had. Hotels are full - no vacancies and there are some new faces on my walk. My early morning trek takes me along the road between the ocean and the tent campers and RV's. Sleepy people venture out of temporary shelters to walk their dogs, drink the first cup of coffee and have a smoke in their fuzzy slippers and robes. Maybe they are just getting up to enjoy the peace and quiet of the scenery. It's nice to have the ocean in your front yard even if it is just for a weekend. Funny how people can move into a new place and make it their own so easily. It is good to imagine I am a visitor here and not an local. Seeing it through the eyes of the tourists - visiting the beach on vacation, the bonfires and easy living give me renewed appreciation for this place. Even if I did not live here I would choose some water front location preferably away from the crowds and the heat. Vacations don't appeal to me as traffic, crowds and confusion, hot weather and strange beds keep me home.
Fourth of July and fireworks, picnics and barbeque's, craft shows and home town activities bring folks here from all around. Of course the ocean and cool temperatures don't hurt the tourism. So I will close my eyes and breath in the fresh cool salty air and imagine just for a moment that I am on a long awaited trip and borrow from the feel of the visitors a renewed sense of rest and peace.
Hope you will get to the beach soon if it has been too long.
