Ruminating on my upcoming birthday, I can only reflect on the past years and be grateful that I have made it this far. The physical aspects of aging are not particularly gratifying but the benefits of life experience soften the blows. Knowing who you are, what you like and dislike, not going with the popular choices and politically correctness of the day and not caring much what others think are the best part of hitting this milestone. My brother Michael said, in a recent conversation, I can still behave like a kid but it just isn't cute any more. How true. . . Black balloons adorn my dining room and nasty old age cards line my shelves. I am grateful for each day I am blessed with and hope to be useful and find purpose in life. Maybe, just maybe, I will have greater understanding and compassion for other chronologically challenged folks like my brother John and my friend Jock and DEE and all the others that hit this one before me . . . Nah ! Okay you have to admit it is kind of cute!

The depth of feelings behind the words says a lot; good thoughts when you know who you are and what you are. My 'baby-girl' is just starting a new leg of the journey with faith, hope and love . . . not bad after a half century -----you do realize you have made an OLD woman out of me. bye gracie, love you.
