Flocks of wild turkeys roam the grassy fields and open woodlands of the Oregon back country. A month from now the hunting season opens for these tasty birds. We went scouting for the long beards, toms and hens and found them to be plentiful in several areas. The locations I cannot divulge for fear of my personal safety.
Miss Emma was in puppy paradise running free through the mud puddles and meadows with her buddies Kisha and Joe. New sights and smells for an adventuring puppy were everywhere. We saw a large herd of Elk along with the turkeys in one spot. An eagle roosted high in a tree. It was a beautiful day. . . until the mention of ticks.
Yup spring would not be complete without the nasty little suckers. And I was so enjoying our outing. Ignorance is bliss and I prefer it to the knowledge of an abundance of ticks. Just the word tick or idea of a tick on or around me sends me into a squirming, itching, searching frenzy. Emma has been picked at, cleaned, inspected and brushed, over and over. My clothes coat and shoes have been removed to the laundry in the garage and are in serious peril of being burned. I have had two hot showers and a bath and not found one but the thought of them is just as bad to me as finding one. They are very small and young this time of year until they bite into an artery and fatten up on your blood. It may be some time before I find one. Some great outdoor/sports woman I make. Oh to have the freedom of the wild without the bugs. . . and the rattle snakes. Uh Oh . . . Don't get me started on the rattle snakes.
An Alaskan adventure awaits me next month so I better toughen up. Any suggestions?

Why would you need to fear for your safety? Are you trespassing on a gun toting owner's property?
no no it's forest service land. I was worried about snakes and ticks. Creepy crawlies.
