For weeks I admired this impressive spider web strung between two beams visible from the back window. My first reaction was a normal shiver of disgust. Upon closer examination I was awed by the intricacy and engineering feat of this insect all for capturing a meal. Inadvertently, I walked through it one day (again shivering in disgust) and totally destroying it. Today, in the rain, I notice it is back. I am happy. The spider lingers in the center waiting patiently for its next meal to become entrapped. It is a very large spider. We call them Pumpkin Spiders as they come out every year at this time. Where they go for the rest of the year in unclear. A clever name eludes me as the shiver response has returned. Happy Halloween.
