The Story of a Fuzzy Green Tennis Ball

There once was a little green tennis ball that lived in a cold, dark cupboard in a laundry room for many years. Once a year it was brought out to be thrown into a hot clothes dryer. It bounced around in the dryer with several other tennis balls and an old down feather comforter. It was not a happy life for this tennis ball. Oh no, he had dreams. He yearned to be thrown and caught by happy children or batted back and forth by tennis rackets. Or better yet become the prized toy of some beloved little dog.

Well one afternoon visitors came to the house. A man pulled into the driveway with his two dogs -Kesha a beautiful and proud Nova Scotia Tolling Retriever and the other - Joey, a cute, playful white Bichon Frise. The dogs were here for a visit as their person went off to fish for the day.

The nice lady who lived in the house brought out the little green ball to see if the dogs would play. Kesha turned her regal nose to the sky only interested in retrieving birds and digging clams as she was born to do. For Joey it was love at first sight. He saw that little green tennis ball and never took his eyes off it. He stared longingly at the pretty little tennis ball. He had the lady throw that ball over and over - and over and over - and yes - over again. When she was busy he would toss it up in the air playfully and chase it around. He rolled on it to claim it as his own. Joey gingerly chewed little tufts of green fuzz from the ball leaving a trail where ever he went. Joey was happy. . . the little green ball had never been happier and when Joey's human came home from his fishing trip Joey showed off his new toy. He never left it for a moment. But, as all good things must end, it was time for the group to go home. They loaded up in the truck and drove off leaving the ball behind.

The next morning the nice lady saw the little ball sitting forlornly on the kitchen floor. Then again, when she came out for more coffee, she saw that the fuzzy ball had rolled itself over to the back door looking for Joey. What a sad little ball. Joey needs a ball at home but he left this one to visit again soon. The little green tennis ball now has a friend to visit and play with him and all is good. And no worries he is too dirty to go back in the dryer.
