Another sign of the season is the upcoming Dungeness Crab harvest. Usually it opens here around December 1st or when the buyers and the commercial fishermen agree on a price. On my soggy morning walk I pass by large stacks of commercial crab pots waiting for the opening. The guys are readying the pots, painting the floats in florescent paints and reflective tape for identification.
Makes for a pretty picture and when these bright beautiful works of art are loaded onto the waiting vessels my scenery will suddenly become very drab. I am sure these guys are not seeing all this as art but beauty is in the eye of the beholder right? So my friend's pots are painted white with white reflective tape and a green stripe. Those are their's winking at you in the photo. They will be happy to see how the colors pop in the darkness. Pots will be easier to spot and retrieve in the ocean hopefully teaming with fresh meaty dungeness crab. Yum.
Season's Eatings!
